Marche, Italy
Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica is a white wine gem from the Marche region of central Italy. Collestefano was started in 1998 when Fabio Marchionni took over the estate that had been in his family for years. His Verdicchio has been consistent in quality, winning at least two glasses from Gambero Rosso since the 2001 vintage (twice winning three glasses.) The Matelica zone is further inland and at a higher elevation than the more common Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi. Matelica wines tend to be brighter and more elegant whereas the Castelli di Jesi wines often have a little more fruit and heft. Collestefano is textbook for the Matelica style bright and crisp with floral notes and a hint of pine.

Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica is medium-bodied with crisp acidity and good structure. Apricots, peaches, minerals, mint, almonds and flowers all make an appearance in this soft, caressing white. The wine is well balanced to enjoy now and over the next 3-5 years. It is clean and refreshing on the palate, and leaves a long, pleasing finish.
Enjoy Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica as a refreshing summer aperitif wine and with grilled chicken, filet of sole, pastas and salads.
