Marlborough, New Zealand
Delta Vineyard Pinot Noir is our newest red wine discovery from New Zealand. Delta Wines is a young partnership of Kiwi winemaker Matt Thompson and UK wine importer David Gleave founded in 2000 when Matt found a site in Marlborough that he felt was ideally suited to the production of top-quality Pinot Noir. The Delta philosophy is to produce Pinot Noir with vibrant fruit, good tannin structure, excellent acidity and well integrated subtle oak. The Delta Vineyard has 30 hectares of Pinot Noir. It is situated on the West Coast Highway in Marlborough in New Zealand’s South Island. About 25% of the vineyard is on the “flats” while 75% is on the hills that rise to about 175 meters. The Delta Vineyard Pinot is made from the fruit grown on the “flats,” given extra depth by fruit from the hills.
Delta Vineyard Pinot Noir is deep garnet in color with a nose of cherry, plum, mulberry and violet. Medium in body with a silky palate and soft tannins, the wine has nicely integrated oak and mineral notes. It was racked to French oak barrels (40%) and steel tanks for malolactic fermentation and aging for 10 months on light yeast lees. The wine is long and rich on the finish.
Enjoy Delta Vineyard Pinot Noir with roast pork, rack of lamb, grilled salmon, ratatouille and aged cheeses.
