2001 Dry Gully Pinot Noir
Central Otago, New Zealand
Dry Gully Pinot Noir is our latest red wine discovery from New Zealand—truly a discovery as it was just recently uncovered on the floor of our importer’s warehouse! We’re delighted to offer a top-notch Kiwi Pinot with 10 years of bottle age at a very reasonable price. Dry Gully Vineyard is owned by the Moffitt family and is dedicated entirely to Pinot Noir. The vineyard is an island of virgin river silt over alluvial gravels, giving the wine its rich minerality. Dry Gully Vineyard grows near Alexandra, which boasts the greatest diurnal temperature range, the highest maximum and lowest minimum temperatures and the lowest rainfall in New Zealand. This 2001 vintage was aged in French barriques with 20% new oak for 10 months.
Dry Gully Pinot Noir is deep garnet in color with a nose of strawberry, blackberry, thyme, sage and mushroom. It is a fuller-bodied style of Pinot Noir that is complex, layered and nicely textured. On the palate it offers loads of sweet berries, finesse and elegance. The finish is long and satisfying.
Enjoy Dry Gully Pinot Noir over the next 4-5 years with roast pork, rack of lamb, grilled salmon, ratatouille and aged cheeses.
