Wine Spectator 90 points!
Elio Perrone Tasmorcan Barbera d'Asti is a beautiful expression of the Barbera grape from the appellation of Asti in Piedmont. In the words of Antonio Galloni for Wine Advocate, "Stefano Perrone remains a reference-point producer for Moscato." In 1999 Stefano took on a new challenge with Barbera when he purchased the esteemed Mongovone vineyard in Asti. He replanted half of Mongovone in 2001 and uses the younger vines for Tasmorcan, a beguiling wine capturing the ethereal freshness for which Asti is known. Tasmorcan means badger in Piemontese, a name chosen because the animals kept eating the newly-planted Barbera vines! 100% Barbera, the wine was aged for 6-10 months in large oak barrels. Galloni rated the 2011 vintage of Tasmorcan 90 points, calling it "drop-dead gorgeous. Readers are going to have a hard time finding a better wine for the money."
The new 2016 vintage was just scored 90 points by Wine Spectator: “Offering saturated aromas and flavors of boysenberry, blueberry and spicy oak, this effusive red shouts from the rooftops. Balanced in an exuberant way, with fine length. Drink now through 2020. 4,000 cases made.
