2016 Gerard Fiou Sancerre

Product Description
Loire, France
Gerard Fiou is a beautiful expression of Sauvignon Blanc from the famous Loire appellation of Sancerre. Domaine Gerard Fiou is a small family domaine in the east of the Sancerre appellation in the town of Saint Satur. There are only a handful of producers here and the soil is unique in that it has a high percentage of silex (or flint) which typically is identified with Pouilly Fume (just across the Loire river). The domaine now has 9.80 hectares and they are in the process of converting to certified organic viticulture. With these special silex soils and older vineyards (average 60 years-old), the wines have an intense mineral and savory expression and are distinctly Sancerre.
No critics’ scores yet on the 2016, but Wine Spectator rated the 2015 vintage of Gerard Fiou Sancerre 92 points! “A piercing, bone-dry style, with chalk and flint notes driving through the core of gooseberry and thyme. Mouthwatering and lengthy, showing crystal-clear purity on the finish. A rapier. Drink now through 2021. 5,000 cases made.”–JM
Gerard Fiou Sancerre is from 62-year-old Sauvignon vines planted on the famous flinted hills of St-Satur, covering the eastern side of the Sancerre appellation. Vinified in thermo regulated stainless steel tanks and aged on the fine lees, with bâtonnage for more than 6 months.
Enjoy Gerard Fiou Sancerre over the next 3-4 years with grilled shrimp, baked sole, roast chicken, Brie and summer salads.
