2006 Longview Yakka Shiraz
Adelaide Hills, Australia
Longview Yakka Shiraz is a gorgeous red Aussie wine gem from the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia. Longview Vineyard is just south of the historic township of Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills, about 40 minutes southeast of the city of Adelaide. We recently had the pleasure of tasting new releases with Peter Saturno, whose family now owns this property. The superb Yakka Shiraz was grown entirely on the winery’s Macclesfield vineyard in the cool-climate Adelaide Hills. The lasting qualities of this wine have earned it the title of Yakka, an Australian icon synonymous with hard work and longevity.
Longview Yakka Shiraz is dark brick red with full body and a nose of red berries, white pepper and spice. Viognier pressings were included to enhance the palate. The wine expresses a deep, vibrant color, ripe plum and blackberry fruit with a hint of black olive, soy and vanillin. It was aged in old and new French oak barriques. Rich and flavorful on the palate, it has nicely balanced tannins and a long, clean finish.
Enjoy Longview Yakka Shiraz over the next 8-10 years with steak, BBQ ribs, lamb chops and grilled vegetables.
