2015 San Felice Chianti Classico
Wine Spectator 91 points! James Suckling 92 points Tre Bicchieri!
San Felice Chianti Classico is a beautiful wine from the most famous appellation of Tuscany. Agricola San Felice is steeped in local lore and history. Named after a local early Christian saint from the 18th century, the property was bought by the Grisaldi Del Taja family - the founding members of the Chianti Classico consortium. The family produced wine for several centuries until 1968 when the estate passed to Enzo Morganti. Today the property includes a 1,853 acre resort, 445 acres of vineyards and a 44 acre parcel dedicated to experimental viticulture and genetic improvement of Sangiovese. The San Felice vineyards are situated among the gently rolling hills of the Castelnuovo Berardenga area of Chianti Classico. Wine Spectator rated this vintage 91 points--a true wine gem!
San Felice Chianti Classico is a traditional Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Colorino and Pugnitello. It is deep ruby red in color with aromas of dark cherry, raspberry and sweet violets. Medium in body with moderate acidity and silky tannins, this red offers flavors of black cherry, blackberry and plum, with well integrated sweet oak. Aged for 10-12 months in French oak followed by an additional two months of bottle aging, it is nicely balanced to enjoy now or to cellar for 5-6 years. The finish is rich, long and polished.
Enjoy San Felice Chianti Classico with veal, pasta, osso buco, and aged cheeses.
