Mercurey, Burgundy, France
Vincent & Jean-Pierre Charton Mercurey Vieilles Vignes is a beautiful red Burgundy from the Mercurey appellation in the Cote Chalonnaise region of Burgundy. Domaine Charton have cultivated vines in Burgundy, at Mercurey, since 1941. With our great attachment to the notion of terroir we create wines of singular character which bear the imprint of their “Climats."
“An unconditional love for the vines and for wine has been transmitted down the generations in our family, which has been making wine at Mercurey, in Burgundy, since 1941. In the footsteps of my grandfather I am now at the helm of the family estate, supported and advised by my father Jean-Pierre.”—Vincent Charton
Charton Mercurey Vieilles Vignes is 100% Pinot Noir from 50-year-old vines planted in limestone/clay soil. Hand harvested and aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, 30% new. Estate bottled. This wine with its deep garnet red color with black gleams offers a nose of black fruit and spice. The tannins are soft and the aromas in a register of cooked red fruit. Can be consumed now in the splendor of its fruit, or in one or two years for even greater harmony.
Enjoy Charton Mercurey Vieilles Vignes with roast pork, grilled salmon, ratatouille and aged cheeses.
