Description

Veneto, Italy Mazzi Valpolicella Classico Superiore ‘Sanperetto’ is a classic red wine gem made from the Veneto region in the northeast of Italy. This beautiful blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara is the perfect red to enjoy with good friends over a rich meal. This estate is located on the hills of Negrar, one of the five municipalities of the historical area for the production of Valpolicella and Amarone wines within the province of Verona. The Mazzi family has a long tradition in viticulture and wine making (wine was produced here since the early 1900s) and in 1960 Roberto Mazzi, a trained agronomist, started bottling the wines of the vineyards standing on the hills of Calcarole, Castel, Poiega and Villa. The estate was initially called “Sanperetto” after the district where the farmstead was built in the 1800s. The two sons of Roberto, Antonio and Stefano, are now at the helm and continue the tradition of making excellent Valpolicella Classico, Amarone and Recioto della Valpolicella. Practicing organic. • 65% Corvina, 5% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, 10% Molinara • Calcareous, silty, clay soils • Fruit from a vineyard located next to the farmstead, along with select fruit from other estate vineyards (none of which is dried before fermentation) • Fermentation and maceration with the skins in steel with temperature control with daily punching down of the cap for approx. 7 days • Maturation in medium capacity oak casks for approx. 12 months, plus three months in bottle • Nuances of dark cocoa, violets, and black cherry Enjoy Mazzi Valpolicella Classico Superiore ‘Sanperetto’ over the next 6-8 years with osso buco, roast lamb, lasagna, and aged cheeses.
